Glastonbury High School Scholarships
Brendan O’Conner has been an active member of the Glastonbury community for many years. Brendan has been involved in Boy Scouts since 2002 and in 2010 became a Eagle Scout. He has been an active member of Key Club, an organization based around community service since he began high school and was nominated president his senior year. Brendan is an active member of the First Church Senior High Fellowship and the First Church Youth Board. He was a Volunteer Mentor for a middle school student as well as joining the Big Brother/Big Sister program at the high school. He also demonstrated dedication to a business and marketing club entitled DECA where he became the Committee chairman of Community service and fundraising. Brendan was a member of the GHS Varsity Crew team. Brendan has chosen to attend Northeastern University and plans to major in Industrial Engineering.
Daniel Kretzmer has demonstrated strong signs of leadership, dedication, and great contribution to his community. He is Captain of the varsity lacrosse team. His hard work and dedication to push himself to his fullest potential has been an inspiration to all of his teammates and peers moving forward. Daniel gives back to the sports community of Glastonbury by being a referee and coaching youth lacrosse as well as running sports clinics, coaching both youth football and youth basketball. He was a member of the Interact Club where he worked at Apple Fest, Amber Alert, and other events, Relay For Life, Immaculate Conception working to help feed the homeless, and Summer Roses for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Daniel Kretzmer plans to attend the University of Connecticut next year where he will be majoring in Business.
Colin O’Donnell has demonstrated strong signs of leadership, dedication, and perseverance throughout his years through sports and his community. Fighting injuries and setbacks throughout high school he continuously approached sports with a positive attitude and continued to work endlessly to contribute to his team in situations when many would give up, which drew the attention of his coaches as well as his teammates earning him the award of Most Team Spirit. He played Varsity Football, Varsity Football, and Indoor Track. Colin brought out the best in his teammates with his positive attitude and being an outstanding team player on the field even when he was injured. Colin says that his father was a major inspiration for him and he showed him to persevere no matter what the odds are against you. Colin is an active member of the Irish American Home and Society as well as participating in the ASK Program and Relay for Life. He has been involved with coaching Youth Basketball and Youth Lacrosse as well as serving as a referee as well as an umpire for Youth Lacrosse and Youth Baseball. Colin plans on attending Syracuse University majoring in engineering next year.
Courtney Wilczewski has demonstrated strong signs of leadership, dedication, and commitment to her community. Courtney played numerous sports while at Glastonbury High School including Soccer, Lacrosse, Basketball, Indoor Track, and Indoor Soccer. Courtney not only demonstrated her passion for sports through participation but also wanted others to benefit as much as possible through the experience of being a member of a sports team. And so she spent hundreds of hours volunteering with athletes of the Special Olympics of Connecticut in the sports of Basketball, Softball, and Track. She also was a partner and coach for Unified basketball for Glastonbury High School. She is an active member of Key Club, the Host Committee, NAMES Committee, Camp Horizons, Yearbook Club, and community service for St. Paul’s Church. Her dedication extended to the workplace as well earning her employee of the month at The Great Escape. Courtney also demonstrated outstanding academic achievement by participating in Spanish Club and the GHS Science Team. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and Science Honor Society. Courtney Wilczewski plans to attend Providence College with a major in Pre-medicine, Biology, or Physical Therapy.
RHAM High School scholarships
Christopher Langlois has shown continuous academic achievement as well as a desire to give back to his school community. Christopher has showed leadership by being elected President of his class for five consecutive years clearly showing that his peers have seen him as a leader and a hard-working individual for many years. Christopher was also elected President of RHAM High School’s National Honor Society. Christopher is also an active member in both the RHAM High School Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble; he further shows his passion for the arts by being an active member in the RHAM Drama Club. Christopher is involved in tutoring Math and Biology to other students as well as being involved in Peer Helper, Orientation Committee, RHAM Morning News, and the Student Ambassadors. Christopher was captain of the Cross Country Team and Track team in 2005. He was elected as Governor of Connecticut Boy’s State and was also recruited to serve as a Youth Director of the “AHM Youth and Family Services Board of Directors”. He has been an active member of Saint John Fisher Church. Christopher Langlois plans to attend Hofstra University majoring in communications.
Jessica Huhn has demonstrated strong signs of dedication and leadership throughout her time at RHAM by participating in Mock Trials, Cordoba the RHAM Exchange Program, the junior class representative for the National Honors Society a contributing writer, staff member, and did the layout design of the Sachem Scribe, contributed to the school drama club, and was a volunteer tutor. Jessica also gave a lot back to her community as a volunteer for the Cheney Technical Vocational High School’s Boosters Club; she participated in Fall Action, Spring Action, and was a volunteer in the Hebron Harvest Fair. She is a active member of the Gilead Congregational Church by participating in Homeless Awareness Night, Disaster Relief Efforts, and Vocation Bible School. She also showed leadership as a dance instructor. Jessica Huhn plans to attend Western Carolina University as a double major in forensic sciences and forensic anthropology.
